It pairs elementary school classes across the country with Southwest Airlines Pilots to discover more than just how an airplane flies - students see how education is critical in reaching one's personal goals. For four weeks each spring, Southwest Pilots visit and mentor students weekly, and students track their 'adopted' pilot's journey while he/she is 'on the road.' Students also complete the Adopt-A-Pilot curriculum developed in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum and other educational specialists. The curriculum includes science, math, geography, language skills and other activities designed to make learning fun and help students outline their own career paths.
